Volunteer Records Checks

Anyone applying to coach a rep team within TAMHA must bring completed Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check (CRC/VSC) to their coaching interview.  All other coaches, assistant coaches and managers must have this completed before being permitted to be on the ice. 

In 2019, the Child Abuse Registry Check was replaced with the Vulnerable Sector check, which is completed with your Criminal Record check.  A Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is a police information check plus a check to see if a person has a record suspension (pardon) for sexual offences. Vulnerable Sector Checks (VSC) were created in 2000 to protect children and vulnerable persons.  This change will significantly reduce the wait times for volunteer clearance while ensuring the safety of our players.  ENSURE YOU REQUEST THE VSC WITH YOUR CRC AT YOUR LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT.

Having these checks done prior to the startup of hockey season is an important responsibility which TAMHA takes very seriously.  Your CRC and VSC must be renewed every three years to volunteer within TAMHA.

After December 1st, any team official (including coaches, assistants, trainers, and managers) who do not have CRC and VSC checks completed and submitted to the TAMHA Office Manager will not be permitted to coach or interact with TAMHA teams. Both of these checks must be completed as quickly as possible.  Once completed they are valid for 3 years unless requested by TAMHA or HNS.

Criminal Records Check Procedure:

Appear at either the Truro Police Station or the Bible Hill detachment of the RCMP and request a Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.  Usually these checks take about a week to complete.  Below, you will find a letter stating you are a TAMHA volunteer which will allow you to have your Criminal Records Check done without cost. 

You will need to go back to the police station to pick up your completed form.  You may want to make a few photocopies however, originals must be provided to the TAMHA Office Manager.  The TAMHA office is located at:
